Teddy Secor has coached at St. Mary’s College of Maryland for the past five years, specializing in developing and coaching faceoff specialists. During his tenure, each starting faceoff specialist he has coached has finished their season with a faceoff percentage above 60%.
Most recently, Secor coached an All-American faceoff specialist who broke St. Mary’s College’s single-season and career records for both faceoffs won and ground balls.
Before coaching at the collegiate level, Secor served as the Head Coach at Chopticon High School, where he led the program to its first regional championship in school history in 2023.
Secor played collegiately at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where he was a faceoff specialist and graduated in 2016. He previously played at Calvert High School, graduating in 2012.
Coaching Philosophy
Have Fun!
In order to be great at something you have to put in a lot of hard work. The easiest way to work hard at something is to love doing it. The easiest way to love doing something is to have fun with it. It is my goal as a coach to make practice the best part of my players’ day.
Process Driven!
No one is a master at their craft overnight. It is my goal as a coach to celebrate even the smallest growth of my players in the hopes that it keeps them motivated and excited to get better. Those small moments of growth in the process of getting better will eventually turn into massive results.
Learn by Doing!
You don’t get better at lacrosse by listening to someone talk about lacrosse. You get better at lacrosse by playing lacrosse. It is my goal as a coach to put my players in setting where they “do” more and “stand” less.
